Easy Zipper Pouch Tutorial

Easy Zipper Pouch Tutorial

Once you know how to assemble this thing, it will be really easy. Just need to remember the order of the assembling. It's easy, doesn't take a lot of work, and it's useful in the bag making world.

Prepare 2 same sized exterior pieces, and 2 same sized lining pieces, and a zipper, preferred a bit longer than the pieces:

1) Lay down one of the exterior pieces, right side up. Lay the zipper right side down on top of the exterior piece, along the top edge. Then lay down one of lining pieces, right side down, on top of the zipper:

Pin the top edge, while you're actually sandwiching all the layers. Stitch them together in a straight line:

Note: you might need to move the zipper pull while sewing, so it wouldn't bother you. This is if you don't have a zipper foot.

2) Turn all the layers like in the picture below:

And do the same as the previous step (2nd exterior piece right side up, zipper with entire unit on top of it – right side down, 2nd lining piece right side down on top of all layers, stitch the top of all layers). Make sure it all aligns:

3) (Optional): it's best to stitch along the zipper, just the exterior pieces individually, not at all layers. It will make the zipper tougher and safer to use.

4) Combine the couples, exterior pieces together, and lining pieces together, right sides facing each other.

Note: make sure the zipper is open almost all the way, before(!) the next step. Don't forget, it's very important!

5) Pin all around, and sew all sides, while keeping a small gap in the lining pieces area:

Note: the zipper ends are supposed to peek from the sides. It's okay, just sew over them. But make sure you're not sewing over the zipper's metal piece, it might break the needle!

Note: you can trim off the zipper ends.

6) Now you will understand that it was really important that you've opened the zipper before sewing all the sides. Because now you can turn the whole thing inside out through the gap in the lining:

7) Stitch the gap closed, and tuck the lining into the exterior:

Done!
