A distinctive feature of the bag is that it does not need to be turned out at any stage of sewing. All edges are machined outside with a bias binding.
For the bag, we need:
- 2 details of the outer part of the bag - 45 * 43 cm (in the photo there is a fabric with stains);
- 2 lining details - 45 * 43 cm (red fabric);
- 2 parts for processing the upper edge of the bag - 45 * 8 cm;
- 2 bias binding for processing side seams - 4 * 43 cm;
- 1 bias binding for seam processing on the bottom - 4 * 45 cm;
- 2 bias binding for processing the corners - 4 * 12 cm;
- 2 parts for sewing handles - 66 * 7 cm;
- 2 parts of the seal in the handles (optional) - 66 * 2.3 cm.
Our handles for the bag will be 2.5 cm wide. I make allowance 1 cm, so the width of the cloth handles 2.5 * 2 + 1 * 2 = 7 (cm).
First, I iron the fabric so as to bend the allowances. For this you need a strip of thick paper 5 cm wide and an iron:
When I ironed both pieces of fabric, I bend them in half and iron them again:
You can now insert the seal:
We stitch. Handles are ready. But in this bag they will be sewn at an angle to the upper edge of the bag, so you need to fold them in half:
And cut the edge at an angle of 25 degrees:
Handles are ready. We continue to prepare the details.We take the parts for processing the upper edge of the bag - 8 * 45 cm - we fold them face up to each other and sew on the side (on the sides 8 cm long):
Here's what we got - the handles and the top detail:
Now we take the lining and outer fabric and fold the inside of the sides to each other:
Spoiled with pins on the side and bottom.
Repeat for the other two pieces of fabric.Now I will show how to attach the handles of the bag. This can be done at this stage or later. Handles are attached to the front of the bag. Put the ruler to the top edge of the future bag and pin the handle with a pin:
Do the same with the other 3 ends of the straps.
Our handle with a beveled edge should be tilted to the center of the bag:
We combine the details of the bag inside out:
We connected all the large parts of the bag (2 pieces of lining, 2 pieces of the outer side). Now to the side seams we pin the bias binding:
As seen in the photo, inside out, facing the lining. And, finally, we finish with the first preparatory stage and stitch the side seams:
Then take the iron and iron the bias binding so that its edge is bent to the edge of the lining:
Stitching
Repeat for the bottom seam
Now I will tell you how to make a rectangular bottom in a bag of 2 parts. On the left side of the photo you can see how the bottom should turn out:
To do this, combine the lower and side seam:
We take a ruler and draw a line along which we will flash. The line should be perpendicular to the seam, trimmed by a bias binding, 8 cm long:
we sew
We take the bias binding 12 * 4 cm in size, pin it with the wrong side out and so that the ends of the same size stick out from the side:
We sew, we bend the ends of the fabric inside and iron:
Fold out and iron out as needed:
We turn over the bag and fold the edge of the bias binding to the edge - the same as with the side seams:
We bend inward and sew up
This is what should happen:
Our rectangular bottom, inside view
The whole bag looks like this:
Now let's do the top edge. We take the item that was sewed at the beginning (from 2 pieces of fabric 8 * 45 cm) and bend in half with seams inside:
It turns out a ring of fabric. Pin him outside, to the upper edge of the outer part of the bag:
Sew:
This is what should happen:
Bend inside the sewn "ring"
We are stitching. For beauty, I made 2 seams - quite close to the edge and at a distance of 2.5 cm from the edge:
Bag is ready! But for beauty it is better to iron it :)
