Wallet Wristlet Zipper Pouch Tutorial

 It has two pockets on both sides of the interior for credit crads, licenses, etc.  Plus, extra room for keeping odds n' ends in.  

You can even make a second little change purse to put inside and still have room for keys, cell phone, lipstick, etc. :)

Materials
12 Charm Squares (or 8, 5" squares)
13" Ribbon (I used twill ribbon from Moda fabric packaging)
9" Zipper
1/3 Yard of 809 Pellon Craft Fuse or other semi-stiff fusible interfacing. Cut into the following:
  - 4,   4-1/2" x 2" rectangles
  - 2,   8-1/2" x 4" rectangles



1.  From the 8 Charm squares, you will need to choose:
 4 charm squares for the outside of the wrist-let
4 charm squares for the inside of the wrist-let
4 charm squares for the inside pockets

2.  Fold the inside pockets in half wrong sides together and press.

3.  Open the pocket pieces and place the squares right side down.

Take the 4-1/2" x 2" rectangles of the fusible interfacing.

Line up the 4-1/2" side of the interfacing with the fold line
and place the interfacing on one side of the fold line, then
center it between the other two sides.

Press interfacing to the pocket pieces.

4.  Fold the pockets along the fold line, right sides together.
Press.
Sew along each of the now, 2-1/2" sides with a 1/4" seam allowance.
Trim the folded corners near the stitches without cutting the stitches.

5.  Turn the pocket right side out.

6.  Turn the raw edge in about 1/4" and press.

7.  Sew the opening closed with an edge stitch.

8.  Take your four outside squares and decide on a layout for the final wrist-let.
2 squares will be the "front" and 2 squares will be the "back".

9.  Sew each set of 2 together with a 1/4" seam allowance.

10.  Take the final two pieces of fusible interfacing and center them on the front and then the back and press. Set aside.

11.  Take the final 4 squares and repeat steps 8 - 9 for the lining.

12.  Choose the arrangement of your interior pockets.
I like mine to set like they are in the picture so that I can find the card I want, when I want it.

13. Sew the pockets in with a 1/4" seam allowance down the sides and bottom ONLY.  Remember to leave the tops open!

14.  To sew on the pockets the way I have pictured, first place the "bottom" pockets on each lining side and pin.

15.  Sew only the interior seam of each pocket to the lining with a 1/4" seam allowance.

16.  Now take each top pocket and pin it to the each bottom pocket, but NOT the lining.  Sew the overlapping seam with a 1/4 seam allowance on the top pocket seam.

17.  Now fold the top pocket over the bottom pocket the "wrong" way (meaning the way in which it should not be in the end) and pin to the lining.

18.  Using a 1/4" seam allowance, sew the bottom pocket to the lining along the left side and bottom to where it meets the top pocket.

19.  Put the top pocket back the way it should be.  Pin.  Sew along the remaining bottom pocket side and bottom.  Then sew along the rest of the top pocket's right side, starting at the bottom of the bottom pocket.  Finish by sewing along the bottom and left side of the top pocket.

20.  Set aside lining pieces.

21.  Take the two outside pieces that were set aside earlier and the ribbon.  I always save my moda twill ribbon from the packaging of fat quarters and jelly rolls.  And I am ALWAYS looking for cool ways to use it. Love it on this! :)

Fold the ribbon in half.
Place the ribbon on one side of the outside pieces near what will be the top of the wrist-let.
Pin and sew with 1/4" seam allowance.

22.  Keep the ribbon pinned.

23. Place basting tape or wash away wonder tape on each edge of the zipper top.

Remove the paper backing on the tape.  Place the zipper face down along the top edge of one of the outside pieces.

Using a zipper foot, sew the zipper to the outside piece close the zipper teeth.

24.  Fold the outside down, away from the zipper and press the outside away from the zipper.

25.  Repeat steps 23 & 24 with the other outside piece.

26.   Place basting tape on the edges of the back of the zipper.
 Fold one of the outside pieces to face one another so that they are both to one side.

27.  Remove the paper from the tape that is on the opposite side of the outside pieces.
To clairfy: In the above picture (Image A) that would be the right side.

28.  Take the lining pieces you set aside earlier.
Place the top (the edge where the pockets are open) of one of the lining sides on the zipper side that you just removed the paper from.

29.  Using the zipper foot again stitch as close to the zipper teeth as you can, attaching the lining piece to the zipper.
Fold the lining piece back and press away from the zipper.

30.  Turn the outside pieces to the other side of the zipper as well.
Now, all pieces will be to one side, leaving the remaining taped side of the zipper open.

31.  Remove the paper from the tape and repeating steps 27, 28 & 29, attach the other lining piece to the zipper.

32.  Fold the lining piece back and press away from the zipper.
Fold both lining pieces and both outside pieces out with the zipper uncovered and in the middle.
Press all pieces away from the zipper.

33.  Move the zipper pull to the center of the zipper, so that the zipper is 1/2 way open.
Now, take the outside pieces and place them right sides together. Pin.
Then, take the lining pieces and place them right sides together.  Pin.

34.  Starting just under the zipper teeth, sew along the the lining sides and bottom, leaving a 4" opening along the bottom for turning.

Starting just under the zipper teeth again, sew along the top outside sides and bottom.

35.  Pull the outside through the zipper and then through the opening left in the lining.  Poke out all the corners and edges.

36.  Sew the opening closed either with a machine using an edge stitch or by hand with a slip stitch.

37.  Tuck the lining in and tada!

38.  Maybe next time I will sew in a change purse! ;)
