This is the mother of all toiletry bags and I'll tell you why.
1. It's made out of waterproof oilcloth
2. It's CAVERNOUS.
I'm usually packing my toiletries and Matt's in my toiletry bag, so I need some space. This one is perfect. It would be great for diapers & wipes, for all your makeup, to put your sunscreen and essentials in at the beach, for whatever.
You'll need:
a piece of oilcloth 15"x19" (it can be vinyl, denim or even home dec weight fabric, any heavy and thick fabric that will hold its shape.)
an 18" zipper (you'll trim it, but i like to have too much zipper rather than not enough!)
7" piece of webbing
First, lay zipper upside down on one of the 15" short edges of the oilcloth.
Stitch down.
Fold oilcloth in half and stitch zipper onto other short edge. Make sure the right side of the zipper (with the pull) is facing the right side of the oilcloth.
Now your bag should look like this with the zipper stitched in and the edges raw.
Turn bag right side out and topstitch both sides of zipper down.
So it looks like this now.
Turn bag wrong side out again and run a stitch along both short raw edges. Be sure to leave your zipper half open so you can turn the bag right side out again.
Bring the zipper to one side, flatten the bag and orient so that the side forms a triangle, like the picture above. Measure in 2 1/4" from each of the two corners like shown and draw a light line across to guide stitching. Don't stitch up corners quite yet.
Stand bag up on one end.
Insert the webbing perpendicular to the zipper on the right side of the fabric.
Stitch up corners along lines you drew on both ends of bag. Be sure your webbing stays straight, at a right angle to the zipper. Trim off corners and trim excess zipper.
Now your bag should look like this.
Turn right side out, and fill 'er up!
Look how much space is in there!
Great for world travels and weekends away (-:
