I liked to play with cozy felt in warm color. And I loved the result of a couple hours of fun handwork. I wrote the tutorial for making this lovely Mini heart pouch here. There is also the downloadable and printable actual sized heart pattern here.
What you will need
*A felt sheet (9x12", 23x30cm)
*Zipper (5", 12cm)
*Embroidery Thread (DMC Craft Thread or #25)
*Hand sewing thread or All purpose thread
*Embroidery needle
*Hand sewing needle
*Scissors
*Basting thread
Heart Pattern
1.Cut felt following the sizes in this picture.
1.5cm=9/16", 4cm=1-9/16", 6cm=2-3/8", 12cm=4-11/16", 2cm=3/4", 14cm=5-1/2"
To cut the heart shaped sides, download the printable actual sized pattern.
Make sure the printed heart measures 3.25"/8.2cm wide.
2.Pin one of the top parts on top of the zipper 1/16" far from zipper teeth.
3.Sew the end of zipper together with a couple of stitches.
4.Sew a top onto the zipper with back stitch. I used inexpensive DMC craft thread. You can use four strands of #25 Cotton floss instead.
5.Do the same thing to the other side. The thread is DMC Craft thread I used.
6.Move to the wrong side. Fold a top part like this and pin it.
7.Using hem stitch, sew the top part onto the zipper. Make sure that stitches can't be seen on the front. Use a all purpose or hand sewing thread for this job.
8.Both sides finished.
8.The look from the right side.
9.Fold a tab in half and sew it on the end of the top temporarily. Trim the end of zipper.
10.Fold the bottom part toward center 1.5cm (9/16") and pin it.
11.Sew it on to the center of the bottom with running stitch. The other side as well. This side will be inside of the bottom of the pouch.
12.Pin the end of the bottom to the end of the top like this.
13.Sew it with whip stitch using all purpose or hand sewing thread.
14.The same thing to the other side.
15.The sides will be doubled with two sheets of felt for reinforcement. That is why you have four hearts.
16.Put two hearts together and baste them with basting thread.
17.Pin a half of a heart onto 14. It makes your work easy to work on a half of heart first and move on to the other half later. Make sure the center marks of heart go on to the center of the top and bottom. And the side marks of heart go on to the ends of zipper.
18.Sew a heart on to the gusset (top & bottom) with whip stitch.
18.Keep working on another half of the heart.
19.Take basting away.
19.View from the other side. Work on the other side as well.
20.DONE!
