Colour coordinating nylon zip at least 28cm wide
Other sewing requirements:
Thread, scissors, sewing machine, iron, measuring tape
and zipper foot.

INSTRUCTIONS.
1. Cutting out:
Cut two pieces of main fabric, two pieces of lining fabric and two pieces of interfacing. Attach the
interfacing to the main fabric by iron or pins.
2. Insert the zip.
Change the foot on your machine to a zipper foot. Place the main fabric right side up on your table
and lay the zip on top of it, aligning the top edges. Place lining fabric right side down on top of the
zip again align the edges.
Sew across the top stitching the three layers together. (main, zip and lining)
Flip the fabric over so that the zip teeth are on top and the main and lining fabrics are folded down
so that wrong sides are together.

Place the top of the main fabric for the other side against the other side of zip. Right sides of main
should be together. Place the lining underneath everything so that the right sides of the lining are
together. The lining should be behind the zip. See the pictures below as they are probably clearer.
Stitch along the top as before. Fold the layers away from the zip and press.
Topstitch down both sides of the zip.
3 Body.
Make sure the zip pull is in the middle (this is very important otherwise you won’t be able to turn
your pouch to the right side!). Fold your pouch so that the right sides of the main fabric are together
and the right sides of the lining are together. The zip should face towards the lining.

Stitch around the pouch sides and top but leave a gap in the bottom of the lining for turning.
Trim across each of the corners and trim the zip.
4. Making the flat bottom.
Put your hand into the bag and locate one of the corners. With your other hand push the corner flat
matching the side seams.
Press the corner making sure that the seams on both sides are flat. Pin through the side seams.
Measure 3cm from the pointy end of the corner and mark. Draw a straight line across the corner at
this mark.
Stitch across the corner on this line. Trim 1cm below the line. Repeat for the other three corners.

5 Turning Out.
Put your hand through the gap and grab the other end of the pouch and pull. Once you’ve got the
fabric outside the gap, pull it all through to the right side and push the corners out.

Press the main fabric at this stage.
6 Closing the gap
Push the raw ends of the seams into the gap. Pin across the gap. Top stitch close to the edge.
7 Finish.
Push the lining into the bag body and push the ends of the zip out with your finger.
