DIY Easy Drawstring Bag

DIY Easy Drawstring Bag

How to Make a Simple Drawstring Bag. I am pleased to present my little tutorial for a headphone bag to you today. The instructions are suitable for beginners, as they do not require a great deal of sewing experience. Let's get started!

You need:

Cotton fabric as firm as possible: 2 rectangles of 22 cm x 28 cm, seam allowance already included
Cord: approx. 60 cm long, thickness of the cord as desired (my cord thickness 2mm)
Cord stopper: 1 piece, diameter depending on the thickness of the cord chosen (my stopper is suitable up to 5mm diameter)
    Large safety pin
    Possibly adhesive tape

Cut the two rectangles and finish all sides with a zig-zag stitch.

Now place the two rectangles right sides together. Mark (e.g. with a pin) a distance of 6 cm from the short side on one of the two long sides. You will need this opening later for the cord tunnel.

Now pin the two sides of the fabric together and sew one short side and both long sides using a straight stitch (seam allowance 1 cm). Note that you only sew up to the marking on the long side with the later cord tunnel.

Now iron an approx. 0.5 cm wide edge over to the wrong side on the short side that is still open and the cord tunnel side. Fold these ironed edges inwards...

... you now fold over again approx. 3 cm to the wrong side. Make sure that the folded edge on the cord tunnel side extends over the side that has already been sewn closed. Pin this new edge all the way around.

Now carefully turn the entire bag so that the right side is now on the outside. Here you can now see the cord tunnel side.

Now topstitch the cord tunnel all around with a straight stitch. Make sure that you sew as close as possible to the bottom, pressed edge.

The bag is now almost finished.

Now it's time to use the cord. I took the length of the short side times three (approx. 60 cm) and cut the cord to this length.

You now need the safety pin to insert the cord into the tunnel. Push it through the end of the cord. To prevent the cord from fraying, you can cover the end with adhesive tape or washi tape.

Now thread the cord through the tunnel using the safety pin. You can feel the large safety pin through the fabric and therefore pull it through very easily.

When you have transported the cord completely through the tunnel, pull it through so that both ends protrude from the tunnel at the same length.

The cord ends (here covered with washi tape) are now pulled through the holes in the cord stopper. Knot the ends together and remove the tape.
