Simple DIY Basket Bag Tutorial

Simple DIY Basket Bag Tutorial

Children's Bag / Easter basket Sewing Tutorial.
Sewing instruction for a children's bag, which can also be used as an Easter Basket.

You need:

At least 1x 30X45 cm fabric for the outside
At least 1x 30X45 cm fabric for the inside
At least 1x 30x22 cm fabric for the handles
At least 30x 45 cm volume fleece 100 or 200 g
1 A4 sheet

First, take your A4 sheet as a pattern and cut a piece of fabric from the outer fabric, inner fabric and the volume fleece once each on the fold.

Then cut an A4 piece of fabric for the handles.

Cut the piece in half lengthwise.
Now it gets more exciting :)

Now take the two pieces of fabric that are to become the handles and fold them in half lengthwise. Press them flat or iron them to create a crease.

Unfold the fabric again and lay it on the table with the good side facing you. Now fold the top and bottom long edges towards the center (the crease) again.

Folds the whole thing together

Press and topstitch close to the edge on both sides.
Wasn't that difficult, was it?
If you want to embroider something on the bag or embellish it, now is the time to do so.

Now fold the two pocket pieces right sides together and sew both sides closed.

For the bottom, fold the seam allowances apart at each corner so that the bottom seam lies on the side seam. Mark a corner of 8 cm at a 90 degree (right) angle and sew off. Do the same again with the inner part.

Turn the outer bag over and place a handle 10 cm from the right and left side on the bag.

Now insert the outer pocket into the inner pocket.

I pin the handles once again and remove the pins from the inside pocket, as I find the pricking very annoying when turning. Daredevils can also save themselves this step ;)

Sew the pocket closed along the top edge, leaving an opening for turning.

Turn the pocket through the turning opening and press the seam allowance to the inside.

To finish, topstitch the pocket again close to the edge to close the turning opening.

Voila ! Your bag is ready and can be filled.
