How to sew a box pencil case | DIY pencil pouch | a zippered box pouch | easy for beginners.
I want to show you a small pencil holder that I made with fused plastic bags. Surely you already know this technique, but for those who do not know it, I explain how it is done.
It consists of taking the typical plastic bags, cut the handles and the bottom so that it is a rectangle. If they have a design, it is better to turn them over. If you want to keep the design, you have to put a transparent plastic bag on top. About 6-8 layers of plastic is enough.
We put it between two sheets of baking paper and iron. We must move the iron continuously and be careful with the corners. Turn over and iron on the other side. We will see that the bags shrink and start to stick. We go ironing and checking until we see that they are completely glued and form a rigid and compact fabric, without bubbles.
To give it a different touch, I cut 4 cm strips from a bag with a print that I like (from Tiger). I crisscrossed them and put a transparent bag on top to keep the print. You can see the result in the photo.
To make the pencil pouch, we mark a 24 x 19 cm rectangle with an indelible marker and cut it out.
On the longer side we sew the zipper, right side to right side. We turn and pass a stitch. We do the same with the other side. To be able to make the stitch, it is best to open the zipper.
Flatten with the zipper in the middle and sew both sides. Fold the corners and sew at 1.5 cm to give it shape.
The end result is a practical pencil pouch, but it can also be a makeup bag, a small first aid kit, a glasses case or whatever you can think of. It has the advantage of being resistant and waterproof, it is easily sewn and we recycle plastic bags.
