Today I'm sharing a tutorial for a Quilted Chevron Pin Cushion using very simple instructions and Riley Blake's new Chevron fabric collection. Now let's get started!!
What you'll need:
1 - piece of yellow chevron fabric measuring 4" x 4"
1 - piece of gray chevron fabric measuring 4" x 5"
1 - piece of black chevron fabric measuring 4.5" x 9" for the bottom
1 - piece of scrap batting measuring 6" x 10"
1 - piece of black twill tape measuring at least 5"
1 - Riley Blake button
Eco-friendly Fiberfill Pillow Stuffing or Polyfill
coordinating thread
Sewing pins and basting pins
Sharp scissors and/or a rotary cutter/mat set
Sewing and quilting the Pin Cushion:
1. With right sides facing, place the yellow chevron fabric on the gray chevron print
2. Pin in place
3. Using a 1/4" seam allowance, sew fabrics together
4. Press with iron so seams are open
5. Place the pieced pin cushion top onto the piece of batting 6. Use basting pins to pin together fabric and batting
7. With a straight, even stitch, sew following the chevron stripe to create your quilting
8. Use a straight edge and rotary cutter to trim away excess batting
9. Place the twill tape in the very center of the gray chevron side of the pin cushion top.
10. Place the quilted chevron pin cushion top and bottom piece right sides together
11. Pin in place
12. Using a 1/4" seam allowance, sew around the outside edges, leaving an opening for turning
13. Zigzag stitch again around the outside edges, trim corners, and turn pin cushion right sides out
14. Stuff the pin cushion until nice and full, make sure to fill each corner first
15. Hand stitch the opening closed with needle and thread
16. Sew on the button in the very center of the yellow chevron side
Voila! Your Quilted Chevron Pin Cushion is finished!
I hope you enjoy making one of these pin cushions for yourself or to give a stitching friend! I think it's such a fun and simple way to use up those scraps of our favorite fabrics, batting, and trimmings!
